Uskmouth Power Plant converted to cybermen factory
Friday 12 May 2006
Uskmouth Power, normally a 360MW coal-fired power station, has been converted into a state-of-the-art cybermen factory - where human beings are taken to be converted into deadly cybermen.
Cybermen at Uskmouth Power Station
The power station, situated on Severn Estuary at Nash, features in episodes 5 and 6 of the new series of Doctor Who, which see the return of cybermen, some of Doctor Who’s most infamous adversaries who were last seen on earth in 1986. The episodes will be broadcast on Saturday 13 and 20 May at 7.00pm on BBC One.
Steve Foster, finance director of Uskmouth Power who was abducted by the cybermen on the day of filming, is looking forward to his small screen debut: “I think there’s a chance I may be seen being dragged off round a corner with my ears flashing green! There were four or five cybermen around the plant all day, which was a bit different – although working here every day you tend to forget that the station is a pretty epic backdrop.
He added: “We are always looking for opportunities to diversify, but becoming a cyberman factory might be a step too far – and of course, we would need to get a national cybergrid connection set up before we could start production.”
Dan England of Alstom, who organised all the health and safety and facilities aspects of the day will be appearing on Doctor Who Confidential which is broadcast immediately after Doctor Who, on BBC Three.
